The biggest events in Libyan History

1. Italian invasion of Libya (1911-1943): Italy launched an invasion in 1911 to capture Libya from the Ottoman Empire. Italians kept Libya under control until 1943.

2. Libya's struggle for independence (1951): Italy's Second World War. With its weakening after World War II, Libya started a struggle for independence. In 1951, Libya was established as an independent kingdom and was governed under the leadership of King Idris I.

3. Gaddafi came to power (1969): In 1969, a group of officers led by Muammar Gaddafi came to power by overthrowing King Idriss I. Gaddafi remained an authoritarian leader in Libya for 42 years.
