What is the Libyan form of government?
Libya is a parliamentary republic with the president as its head. Libya's form of government is a temporary one determined by the National Transitional Council, which was established after the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. With the elections held in 2012, the Libyan National Congress was established and the country transitioned to a parliamentary system. With the elections held in 2014, different governments emerged, such as the Tobruk-based House of Representatives and the Tripoli-based Supreme State Council, resulting in political division in the country. Due to this division, political stability has still not been achieved in Libya.
