Libya's military power and army structure are quite complex. Following the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, various armed groups and militias emerged in the country. These groups have various ethnic, religious and ideological differences and generally maintain control within their own regions or tribes. Libya's officially recognized Government of National Accord (GNA) is located in the country's capital, Tripoli. The GNA's troops are under the control of the National Unity Government, which is recognized and supported by the United Nations. The military force of the GNA consists of units called the National Army. The National Army is also known as the Libyan National Army (LNA) led by General Khalifa Haftar. The LNA was founded in 2014 to maintain control against the GNA in Tripoli. LNA is a militia force that is especially active in the eastern and southern regions. The LNA led by Haftar is supported by some foreign countries, especially the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Russia. Besides the LNA against the GNA, there are various other armed groups in Libya. These groups include Islamist militias, tribal groups, local defense units and various rebel groups. Additionally, it is known that some foreign powers are present in Libya. For example, Turkey sent the Syrian militias it brought from Syria to Libya to fight on behalf of the GNA. Since the control and structuring of military forces in Libya is quite complex, conflicts, conflicts and instability continue in the country.
