What is the legal system in Uganda?

Uganda uses a legal system based on the English common law system. The country accepted English law as a basis when it gained independence in 1962. However, after independence, Uganda has the authority to create and enforce its own laws. In Uganda, laws are made by the legislative branch of the parliament. The enforcement of the laws is carried out by the Uganda Judiciary, an independent judicial body. The judicial branch consists of the Supreme Court of Uganda, the highest court in the country.
