Lebanon is a country located in the Middle East and its military power is represented by the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF). The LAF is the official armed force of Lebanon, established in 1945. The main tasks of the LAF include protecting Lebanon's territorial integrity, ensuring national security, and maintaining internal security. Additionally, the LAF operates under the civilian government and is obliged to comply with the orders of the civilian authority. The structure of the LAF consists of three main branches: army, air force and navy. However, naval forces are smaller and less equipped than other branches due to limited resources and regional challenges. The LAF's military personnel number approximately 70,000. The majority of these personnel serve within the scope of compulsory military service. The compulsory military service period is generally 1 year. LAF's weapons and equipment are supplied from various countries. These countries include countries such as the United States, France, Russia, Italy and the United Kingdom. The LAF's inventory includes various weapons and equipment such as tanks, armored vehicles, artillery systems, mortars, air defense systems and small arms. In addition to internal security operations, the Lebanese Armed Forces also actively serve in the tensions with Israel on Lebanon's southern border and in situations where the effects of the Syrian civil war are reflected in Lebanon.
