Iraq's military power is represented by the Iraqi Armed Forces (ISF). ISF is a structure that includes all military units of Iraq and is affiliated with the Ministry of Defense. This structure includes different forces such as the Land Forces, Air Force, Navy and Special Forces. Iraq's military structure has an army supported and trained by the United States. With the American invasion of Iraq in 2003, the Iraqi Armed Forces were restructured and modernized. During this process, Iraqi soldiers were trained and provided with new equipment and weapons. The number of personnel of the Iraqi Armed Forces is approximately 250,000. These personnel consist of professional soldiers and people who have completed compulsory military service. The Iraqi Armed Forces has various military units and regional commands exist to ensure coordination and cooperation between these units. In order to respond to Iraq's security needs, the Iraqi Armed Forces undertake various tasks. These include counterterrorism, border security, internal security, disaster response and international peacekeeping operations. However, the Iraqi Armed Forces also have some problems and weaknesses. In particular, factors such as internal conflicts, ethnic and religious divisions, corruption, discipline and leadership problems can affect the army. Additionally, the existence of terrorist organizations such as ISIS poses a serious threat to Iraq's security forces. Therefore, strengthening and developing Iraq's military power is seen as a constant need.
