What is the Iraqi Legal system like?

Iraq adopts a mixed legal system. This system combines the influences of Islamic law (sharia) and the French legal system. The Iraqi Constitution is the country's primary source of law and determines the powers of the Court, which oversees the compliance of laws. The constitution reflects Iraq's religious, ethnic and cultural diversity while protecting fundamental rights and freedoms. Iraq has laws in areas such as civil, commercial and criminal law. The judicial system in Iraq is organized to ensure the independence of courts and judges. Courts have various functions such as civil, criminal, administrative and constitutional courts. Judges must serve independently and impartially. However, there are challenges in Iraq, such as security problems, corruption and distrust of the judicial system.
