1. Independence in 1980: As a result of Zimbabwe's independence movement, it gained independence from Britain on 18 April 1980. Robert Mugabe became the country's first president.

2. Economic collapse in the 2000s: In the early 2000s, the Zimbabwean economy faced a serious crisis. Inflation increased rapidly, the unemployment rate rose and basic needs were in trouble.
