Japan Political parties

There is a political party system in Japan. However, Japan's political system differs from other countries. In Japan, political parties generally work by forming a unified coalition to form the government. The strongest political party in Japan is known as the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). The LDP has been the majority government party in Japan since 1955. It is generally considered a conservative party. Besides the LDP, there are other important political parties in Japan. For example, the Democratic Party (DPJ) serves as Japan's main opposition party. Other smaller parties such as the Communist Party of Japan and Komeito also exist. The policies of political parties in Japan generally cover issues such as economy, foreign relations, defense and domestic policy. However, in Japan policy differences between political parties can sometimes be unclear and coalition governments can often form. As a result, political parties in Japan play an important role in the formation of the government. While political parties such as the LDP usually form the majority of the government, other parties may also take part in opposition or coalition governments.
