Maldives Political parties

Maldives is an island country located in the Indian Ocean. It is a politically pluralistic democracy and there are various political parties. Here are some important political parties:

1. Maldives Democratic Party (MDP): MDP, the oldest and largest political party in the Maldives, was established in 2005. Led by Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the party has a centre-left ideology and fights strongly, especially on democratic reforms and human rights issues. MDP came to power by winning the 2018 general elections.

2. Justice Party (AP): The Justice Party was founded in 2008 and has a centre-right ideology. The party, led by Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, has the support of Gayoom, one of the former presidents, and generally advocates conservative policies.

3. Maldives Alliance (MA): Maldives Alliance is a coalition party established in 2019. The alliance was formed by the merger of three political parties known as the Justice Party, Maldives Development Union and Maldives Alliance. The alliance has a center-right ideology and won the 2019 presidential election.

4. Maldives Development Association (MDA): Maldives Development Association is a political party founded in 2013. The alliance has a centre-right ideology and participated in the 2018 general elections by allying with the Justice Party. The parties mentioned above are some prominent political parties in Maldives politics. However, there are other parties in the Maldives that operate on a smaller scale and have different ideologies.
