Wars in which Namibia participated

Namibia has taken part in various international peace missions since its independence in 1990. However, Namibia has war participation in the pre-independence period. Here are the wars in which Namibia participated:

1. Namibian War of Independence (1966-1990): While Namibia was under the colonial rule of the Republic of South Africa, it fought for independence with a guerrilla war led by SWAPO (Namibian People's Liberation Organization), the Namibian Independence Movement. The war ended in 1990, when Namibia gained independence.

2. Angolan Civil War (1975-2002): After Angola gained independence, Namibia's independence movement SWAPO received guerrilla training in Angola and used it as a base to attack the Republic of South Africa. Therefore, Namibia supported SWAPO in the Angolan Civil War.

3. Congo War (1998-2003): Namibia became involved in the civil war in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Namibia provided military support to the Congolese government and was among the parties involved in the war.

4. Lesotho Crisis (1998): Namibia intervened militarily with the Republic of South Africa under the name of Operation South African Shield in the political crisis in Lesotho. In this crisis, Namibia provided military support to ensure stability in Lesotho. Apart from these wars, Namibia has also actively participated in international peace missions. For example, Namibia has supported peacemaking efforts in countries such as Somalia, Sudan, and South Sudan by sending troops to United Nations peacekeeping missions.
