What is the legal system of Tajikistan?

Tajikistan is one of the Central Asian countries that gained independence after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Tajikistan's legal system has a mixed structure, like other Central Asian countries. The Constitution of Tajikistan is the fundamental legal document of the country and determines the structure, powers and fundamental rights of the state. Executive, legislative and judicial powers are separate and the principle of separation of powers applies. The National Assembly, the legislative body, consists of two chambers: the House of Representatives and the National Assembly. The adoption of laws occurs as a result of the votes made in these assemblies. The government, which is the executive branch, is headed by the president. The President serves for a five-year period determined by general elections. The government is headed by ministers appointed by the president. The judicial system is independent and operates through the courts. Courts operate in three main branches: criminal justice, civil justice and administrative justice. Judges serve in accordance with the principles of judicial independence and impartiality. The legal system in Tajikistan aims to ensure the implementation of laws and the rule of law. However, according to some critics, the authoritarian tendencies of the government and the limited independence of the judiciary cause the weaknesses of the legal system. This can lead to problems such as corruption, human rights violations and injustice.
