Wars in which Portugal participated

Portugal has participated in many wars throughout history. Here are some important battles:

1. Portuguese War of Independence (1640-1668): Portugal had been governed as part of the Kingdom of Spain since 1580. However, in 1640, Portugal rebelled for independence and started a war that lasted 28 years. As a result of this war, Portugal gained its independence.
