Kyrgyzstan is a country located in Central Asia and separated from the Soviet Union in 1991 as an independent state. The military power of Kyrgyzstan is represented by the Kyrgyz Armed Forces. The Kyrgyz Armed Forces consist of three parts: Land Forces, Air Force and Air Defense Forces. The Ground Forces are tasked with defending the territorial region of Kyrgyzstan. The Air Force undertakes the task of protecting the country's airspace and carrying out air operations. The Air Defense Forces are responsible for protecting the country against air attacks. The military structure of the Kyrgyz Armed Forces consists of professional soldiers. The country does not have compulsory military service. The soldiers serve in the Kyrgyz Armed Forces on a voluntary basis. The military equipment of the Kyrgyz Armed Forces generally consists of equipment from the old Soviet period.
