Kyrgyzstan's healthcare system has adopted a model dating back to the Soviet Union era. Health services in Kyrgyzstan are financed by the state and health services are provided free of charge. While primary healthcare services are provided throughout the country through health centers and polyclinics, secondary and tertiary healthcare services are provided by hospitals and specialist clinics. The health insurance system in Kyrgyzstan came into force in 2012. Employers are responsible for paying their employees' health insurance premiums. These bonuses are calculated as a percentage of the employee's salary. Insurance premiums are paid to insurance companies determined by the state and are used to cover health services for insured people. Health insurance in Kyrgyzstan provides citizens with coverage for general healthcare as well as emergencies, treatment expenses, medications, and some other services. Insurance provides the opportunity to benefit from services offered in public hospitals and private health facilities. However, the health insurance system in Kyrgyzstan is not fully established yet and some problems are encountered.
