Venezuela is a country with a free public healthcare system, Misión Barrio Adentro. This system is a network established by the government to increase access to healthcare. Misión Barrio Adentro offers many services, including basic healthcare, emergency assistance and preventive healthcare. The healthcare system in Venezuela consists of public and private healthcare services. Public health services are provided by hospitals, clinics and health centers that offer free or low-cost health services. Private health services are provided by private hospitals, clinics and doctors. The insurance system in the country is managed by the Social Security Institute (Instituto Venezolano de los Seguros Sociales - IVSS). Workers become insured by having Social Security premiums paid by their employers. These premiums are used to access healthcare. IVSS covers various healthcare services such as medical examination, hospital services, medications and rehabilitation services. However, in recent years, the healthcare system in Venezuela has faced great difficulties due to the economic crisis. There is a shortage of medicines, medical supplies and equipment in hospitals, and there are problems in accessing health services due to the migration of medical personnel and doctors. For this reason, many Venezuelan citizens obtain private health insurance or choose to receive healthcare abroad.
