Minimum wage is the lowest wage a worker in Turkey should receive per hour worked. To determine the minimum wage, the minimum cost of living determined as a result of an annual survey conducted by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) is taken into account. In 2022, the gross minimum wage has been determined as 4,400 TL. The net minimum wage amount is calculated by deducting income tax, social security premiums and other deductions from this amount. Income tax is withheld from the minimum wage. Income tax brackets and rates may change every year. Income tax brackets and rates in 2022 are as follows: - 15% tax deduction for income between 0-22,000 TL - 20% tax deduction for income between 22,001-49,000 TL - 27% tax deduction for income of 49,001 TL and above Social security premiums are also deducted for minimum wage workers. In 2022, the employer share is determined as 20.5% and the employee share is 14%. These premiums are deducted from the gross amount of the minimum wage. There are also some discounts specified in the Income Tax Law for minimum wage employees. For example, an income tax deduction of 15% of the minimum wage is given. Therefore, the net wage received by a minimum wage employee will be the remaining amount after deducting income tax and social security premiums from the gross minimum wage. In line with this information, the net wage amount received by a minimum wage employee will vary depending on income tax bracket and social security premiums.
