Wars in which Ethiopia participated

Ethiopia has participated in various wars throughout its history. Here are some important battles:

1. Battle of Adwa (1896): This war against Italy's attempt to invade Ethiopia was won by the Ethiopians and enabled the country to maintain its independence. This war is one of the rare wars in which a European power was defeated on the African continent.

2. Italo-Ethiopian War (1935-1936): Benito Mussolini's Italy attacked Ethiopia with the aim of completely occupying it. Although Ethiopia resisted the modern weapons of the Italians, it was eventually invaded and became part of the Italian Empire.

3. Ogaden War (1977-1978): This war, which broke out as a result of Somalia's invasion of Ethiopia's Ogaden region, resulted in Ethiopia's victory. With the support of the Soviet Union, Ethiopia repelled Somalia and retook the Ogaden.

4. Eritrean War of Independence (1961-1991): This war against guerrilla forces in Ethiopia's Eritrea state resulted in Eritrea gaining independence. Eritrea separated from Ethiopia as an independent state in 1993.

5. Ethiopia-Somalia War (1998-2000): This war, which broke out as a result of the border dispute between Ethiopia and Eritrea, started with the attack of Eritrea. The war ended in Ethiopia's victory and the border dispute was resolved and peace was achieved. Apart from these wars, Ethiopia also participated in various wars with other African countries and served as a peacekeeper.
