Ethiopia is a country located in Sub-Saharan Africa, and its healthcare system faces some challenges due to the country's level of development and limited resources. However, in recent years the government has invested more and made improvements in healthcare. Healthcare in Ethiopia is provided in two main sectors: a public healthcare system that is the responsibility of the government and private healthcare. The public health system consists of different levels of health facilities, such as health centres, hospitals and health stations serving rural areas. The private health sector generally serves large cities and wealthier segments. Access to healthcare in Ethiopia can often present a challenge in rural areas. This, combined with the fact that the majority of the population lives in rural areas, poses a serious problem with access to healthcare. In addition, there are other problems such as insufficient medical personnel, lack of medical supplies and medicines. Ethiopia also has a health insurance system. The country's universal health insurance system is run by the Ethiopian Health Insurance Agency (EHIA), a government-funded program launched in 2010. This program aims to facilitate access to health services for the country's poor and unregistered workers. EHIA finances healthcare by collecting insurance premiums and receiving funding from the government. The Ethiopian health insurance system has played an important role in increasing access to healthcare, especially for people in rural areas.
