The greatest events in Indonesian History

1. 1945-1949: Indonesia's War of Independence: Indonesia declared independence on August 17, 1945. But the Netherlands did not accept Indonesia's independence and started a war. This war lasted until Indonesia gained independence.

2. 1965-1966: Liquidation of the Indonesian Communist Party: The events that started with the assassination of a leftist general of the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) in 1965 turned into a mass anti-communist campaign. As a result of this campaign, thousands of PKI members and supporters were killed or arrested. These events caused the political and social structure in Indonesia to change significantly.

3. 1997-1998: Asian Financial Crisis: The financial crisis that started in Asia in 1997 also affected Indonesia. Indonesia's economy collapsed, its currency was devalued, and foreign investors withdrew from the country. This crisis led to social and political instability and led to the overthrow of the Suharto regime.

4. 2002: Bali Bombings: The 2002 bombings on the Indonesian island of Bali were one of the country's deadliest terrorist attacks. Two separate hotels and a nightclub were targeted and 202 people lost their lives and 209 people were injured. These attacks led Indonesia to take stricter security measures to combat terrorism.

5. 2004: Aceh Peace Agreement: As a result of a long-lasting uprising in Indonesia's Aceh province, a peace agreement was signed between the Aceh Guerrillas and the Indonesian government. This agreement enabled Aceh to gain autonomy and special status and put an end to the conflict. This agreement was an important step in Indonesia's transition from civil war to long-lasting peace.
