Wars in which Guyana participated

Guyana has generally pursued a peaceful foreign policy since its independence in 1966. Therefore, the country has been involved in many international conflicts in which it does not have direct military participation. However, Guyana has indirectly participated in several wars by cooperating with other countries or participating in international peacekeeping operations. Here are some wars in which Guyana indirectly participated:

1. Korean War (1950-1953): As part of the British Empire, Guyana sent soldiers to participate in the Korean War. These soldiers joined the United Nations forces led by the United States, upon the call of the United Nations Security Council.

2. Falklands War (1982): Guyana provided diplomatic support to the war between Argentina and the United Kingdom over the sovereignty issue over the Falkland Islands. The country supported the Argentinian side and did not recognize the United Kingdom's sovereignty over the Falkland Islands.

3. Haiti Unrest (1994-1995): Guyana participated in "Operation Uphold Democracy," a United States-led international intervention force during the political crisis in Haiti. This operation aimed to overthrow the military regime that came to power as a result of the coup in Haiti and restore democracy.

4. Iraq War (2003-2011): Guyana did not directly participate militarily in the United States-led war in Iraq. However, it has provided diplomatic support to the international coalition of the United States and other countries. These wars demonstrate that Guyana's military involvement was limited. The country generally follows a peaceful foreign policy and prioritizes diplomacy in resolving conflicts.
