Wars in which Guinea participated

Guinea became an independent state by seceding from French West Africa in 1958 following the struggle for independence. After independence, Guinea participated in various wars at different periods. Here are the important wars in which Guinea participated:

1. Guinea-Bissau War of Independence (1963-1974): It was a war in which Guinea supported the independence movement in Guinea-Bissau, a Portuguese colony. Guinea provided logistical and military assistance to guerrilla forces led by the Guinea-Bissau Liberation Movement (PAIGC).

2. War of Liberation (1990-1997): It intervened in the civil war in Guinea's neighbor Sierra Leone. Guinea supported rebel groups in Sierra Leone and allowed them to organize their attacks from Guinean territory.

3. Second Liberian Civil War (1999-2003): Guinea became involved in the civil war in its neighbor Liberia. Guinea supported one of the warring parties, the National Patriotic Front (NPFL), and set up refugee camps along the border.

4. Mali Civil War (2012-present): Guinea supported French-led international forces following the start of hostilities in Mali. Guinea assisted the Malian army by sending military units and deployed its troops until the conflict ended.
