What is the legal system of Armenia?

Armenia operates its legal system on the basis of a republican system guided by laws and the Constitution. The legal system includes both domestic and international legal rules. The Constitution of Armenia establishes the fundamental laws of the country and protects the rights and freedoms of citizens. The Constitution also regulates the distribution of powers and duties among the legislative, executive and judicial bodies. The legislative body is the Parliament, known as the National Assembly. The National Assembly has the legislative power to enact laws, amend or repeal existing laws. The executive branch is represented by the Prime Minister and the government. The Prime Minister is the head of government and is responsible for implementing state policies. The judicial body exercises judicial authority independently and impartially. The judicial branch consists of different courts such as the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court and the Military Court. These courts oversee the implementation of laws and resolve legal disputes. The legal system in Armenia aims to ensure that the laws are applied impartially and that everyone has the right to legal protection. However, some criticisms are that the judicial system is subject to political influences and corruption is widespread. Studies and reforms on these issues continue.
