Wars in which Armenia participated

Armenia has participated in many wars in its history. Here are some important battles:

1. Armenian Genocide (1915-1923): The genocide that took place during the Ottoman Empire and caused the death of approximately

1.5 million Armenians. Since Armenia was not an independent state during this period, it could not directly participate in this war.

2. World War I (1914-1918): In the war in which the Ottoman Empire took part among the Central Powers, Armenia also participated in the war as a part of the Russian Empire. Armenian volunteer units fought with the Russian army on various fronts.

3. Soviet-Afghan War (1979-1989): In the war in which the Soviet Union intervened in Afghanistan, Armenia participated in this war because it was a part of the Soviet Union. Many soldiers from Armenia were sent to Afghanistan.

4. Nagorno-Karabakh War (1988-1994): This war between Armenia and Azerbaijan broke out due to claims over the Nagorno-Karabakh region. Armenia directly participated in the war by supporting Nagorno-Karabakh. As a result of the war, a connection was established between Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh region, and Armenia maintains control of Nagorno-Karabakh.

5. 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh War: The conflicts between Armenia and Azerbaijan in 2020 concentrated on the Nagorno-Karabakh region. Armenia joined the war by supporting Nagorno-Karabakh. However, as a result of Azerbaijan's successful operations, Armenia largely lost control of Nagorno-Karabakh. The war ended with the ceasefire agreement signed on November 10, 2020.
