Wars in which Latvia participated

Latvia has participated in many wars in its history. Here are some important wars in which Latvia participated:

1. Latvian War of Independence (1918-1920): With the end of World War I, Latvia struggled for independence. Latvia, which was also involved in the conflicts between Soviet Russia and Germany, gained its independence in 1920.

2.II. World War (1939-1945): II. During World War II, Latvia became a transition zone between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. Latvia, which was occupied by the Soviet Union in 1940, was taken back by Nazi Germany in 1941. However, in 1944, the Soviet Union invaded Latvia again and declared the country as a Soviet Republic.

3. Soviet-Afghan War (1979-1989): Latvia provided military support during the Soviet Union's intervention in Afghanistan. Latvia, like many countries that criticized the Soviet Union's occupation in Afghanistan, sent military troops.

4. Kosovo War (1998-1999): Latvia sided with NATO during the Kosovo War and provided military support to the war. In this war, Latvia participated in NATO air strikes and other military activities. Apart from these wars, Latvia also participated in United Nations peacekeeping operations. For example, Latvia deployed soldiers within UNPROFOR (United Nations Protection Force) in Bosnia-Herzegovina between 1996 and 1998. He also served as part of UNMIK (United Nations Interim Administration for Kosovo) in Latvia and Kosovo.
