What is the Congolese legal system like?

Congo is a country also known as the Democratic Republic of Congo. Congo's legal system is considered a mixed legal system. It is a system that includes influences of both traditional Congolese law and the French legal system. Congo's legal system is based on the country's constitution. The Constitution determines fundamental rights and freedoms, the structure and duties of state organs, the making of legal regulations and the functioning of the judicial system. In Congo, laws are made by the National Assembly, the legislative body. The President's approval is required for laws to be adopted. The government, as the executive branch, is responsible for the implementation of the laws. The judicial system in Congo is run by an independent judicial body. The judicial branch consists of courts and prosecutor's offices. There are different levels of courts in Congo, such as local courts, appeals courts and the Supreme Court. Local customs also play an important role in the application of law in Congo. Particularly in rural areas, traditional leaders and courts are used to resolve local disputes. Congo's legal system may be facing many problems. Problems such as corruption, lack of an effective judicial system and failure to implement the law in accordance with universal norms are factors that limit the efficiency of the legal system.
