Wars in which Gambia participated

Gambia has taken part in various international military operations since its independence in 1965. These include:

1. ECOMOG (Peacekeepers of the Economic Community of West African States): Gambia sent troops to ECOMOG to intervene in civil wars in Sierra Leone and Liberia in the 1990s. ECOMOG is a peace force established to ensure regional peace and protect the civilian population.

2. African Union Peacekeeping: Gambia has contributed to the African Union's peacekeeping operations. For example, Gambian soldiers took part in missions such as AMISOM (African Union Mission in Somalia) in Somalia and UNAMID (United Nations - African Union Joint Mission) in Sudan.

3. United Nations Peacekeeping: Gambia has also taken part in United Nations peacekeeping operations. For example, Gambian soldiers served in UNMIL (United Nations Mission Liberia) missions in Liberia and UNAMID missions in Darfur.

4. ECOWAS (West African Economic Community): Gambia has participated in various peacekeeping operations of ECOWAS. In particular, Gambian soldiers took part in the ECOWAS Peace Force that intervened in the civil war in Mali.
