Tonga is an island country located in the South Pacific. It has a military force called the Royal Tongan Defense Force (TRDF). TRDF assumes responsibility for the protection and defense of the Royal Commonwealth of Tonga. Tonga's military force consists of land, sea and air elements. The land element is known as the Land Forces of the Commonwealth of Tonga. This force performs tasks such as ensuring Tonga's internal security, responding to natural disasters, and participating in international peacekeeping operations. The naval element is called the Tongan Navy. This force performs duties such as ensuring Tonga's coastal security, fisheries control and preventing crime at sea. The air element is known as the Tonga Air Force. This force performs missions such as protecting Tonga's airspace, controlling air transportation, and participating in search and rescue operations. The Royal Tongan Defense Force cooperates closely with the Royal Tongan Constabulary. They cooperate in matters of internal security and protection of public order. Tonga's military force generally operates on a small scale and has a limited budget. However, they cooperate with other countries by participating in international peace operations. Tonga's military structure is based on the constitutional order of the Royal Commonwealth of Tonga and is controlled by the Government of Tonga, led by the Royal family. The military force has the responsibility to preserve Tonga's constitutional order and ensure the country's defence.
