The greatest events in the History of Uzbekistan

1. Independence: With the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, Uzbekistan declared its independence.

2. Andijan Events: In 2005, anti-government protests were held in Andijan city of Uzbekistan and were harshly suppressed by government forces. According to official data, 187 people died as a result of the events, but according to some sources, this number may be higher.

3. Terrorist attacks: Uzbekistan was subjected to terrorist attacks in the 2000s. Especially the bomb attacks in Tashkent in 2004 had a great shock effect in the country.

4. Andijan Rebellion: The protests held in Andijan in 2005 turned into a rebellion as well as anti-government demonstrations. The reasons for the rebellion are still debated, but most sources indicate that economic and political factors played an important role.

5. Oppression against Uyghurs: Uzbekistan has been accused of supporting the oppression of Uyghur Turks in China. In 2009, there were discussions and protests regarding the extradition of Uyghur Turks living in Uzbekistan to China.

6. Changes of head of state: Uzbekistan has experienced several changes of head of state in the post-independence period. Islam Karimov, the first head of state, served between 1991 and 2016. In 2016, Shavket Mirziyoyev replaced Kerimov.

7. Economic reforms: Uzbekistan has implemented economic reforms in the post-independence period. Especially investments in the agricultural sector and the development of foreign trade supported the economic growth of the country.

8. Revival of the Silk Road: Uzbekistan is located on an important part of the historical Silk Road. In recent years, the country has developed various projects to revitalize this historical road and increased its tourism potential.
