What is the Indian Legal system like?

India adopts the Common Law system, which is a mixed legal system. India's legal system is built on the British legal system. Before India gained independence, the British legal system dominated the country and many features of this system had an impact on India's legal system. In India, the formulation and implementation of laws are divided between the legislative branch, the executive branch and the judicial branch. The legislative branch consists of the Parliament of India and has the power to make laws. The executive branch consists of officials such as the President of India and the Prime Minister and has the power to enforce laws. The judicial branch consists of independent courts and has the authority to interpret and apply the laws. In India, the constitution and laws are accepted as the source of laws. The Constitution is the basic legal document of the country and regulates issues such as fundamental rights, civil rights, and the structure and powers of the government. Laws are created as a result of legislative activities carried out by the legislative body. The judicial system in India consists of various courts. The Supreme Court of India, the highest judicial body, has authority over the interpretation and implementation of the constitution and laws. Additionally, there are different levels of courts, such as state courts, local courts, and special courts. The legal system in India is sometimes subject to criticism. Problems such as long court processes, a high backlog of cases, and sometimes the judicial system not working effectively may be encountered. However, the Government of India is carrying out reform efforts to solve these problems.
