The Chilean Armed Forces consist of four main branches: the army, navy, air force and Karabineri Police. The Chilean army is known as the Chilean Land Forces and is considered the largest military branch in the country. The Ground Forces number approximately 55,000 active personnel and consist of infantry, armored units, artillery units and various other units. The Chilean Land Forces are responsible for protecting the country's territorial integrity and internal security. The naval force is known as the Chilean Navy and is responsible for ensuring the country's security at sea. The Navy consists of approximately 25,000 active personnel and maintains a modern fleet of ships, submarines, helicopters and other maritime vessels.
