Information about the Swiss Military force and army structure.

Switzerland's military force operates under the name Swiss Armed Forces (Schweizer Armee). Switzerland follows a policy that aims to use its military power for defensive purposes. Therefore, Switzerland's military force is particularly specialized in internal security and defense. The Swiss Armed Forces basically consist of four branches: Land Forces, Air Force, Navy and Civil Defense. The Land Forces are responsible for protecting the territorial integrity of Switzerland. The Air Force is responsible for controlling airspace, countering air attacks, and performing strategic reconnaissance and attack missions using aircraft. The Naval Forces are responsible for ensuring security in the lakes and rivers within the borders of Switzerland. Civil Defense aims to protect the public against natural disasters, terrorist attacks or war situations. The military strength of Switzerland is that it is a country where military service is compulsory. According to Swiss law, all male citizens are called up for military service and receive military training for a certain period of time. This period is generally set at an average of 260 days (about 8 months) for men between the ages of 18 and 34. However, there are some exceptions and exemptions. The Swiss Armed Forces consist of approximately 120,000 active soldiers along with professional personnel. This number is quite high compared to the population of Switzerland. Additionally, Switzerland's military power has modern weapon systems and technologies. These include warplanes, helicopters, tanks, armored vehicles and artillery systems. Switzerland's military force also operates to promote international peace. Switzerland is actively involved in United Nations peacekeeping operations. Additionally, the Swiss Armed Forces have concluded military cooperation agreements with various countries outside NATO. As a result, Switzerland's military force is specialized in internal security and defense, has modern weapons systems, and supports international peace.
