Belarus is a country located in Central Europe and is defended by the Belarusian Armed Forces. Belarus' military force totals approximately 45,000 active personnel. The Belarusian Armed Forces consist of three main components: Ground Forces, Air Force and Air Defense Forces. The Ground Forces are the largest and most effective force and have a range of military equipment such as tanks, armored vehicles, artillery and missile systems. The Air Force is equipped with a range of aircraft, including fighter jets, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles. Air Defense Forces manage air defense systems. The Belarusian Armed Forces operates on a conscription system, with male citizens generally conscripted at the age of 18. Military service period is 12 months. Belarus has established partnerships with some countries to increase military cooperation in the post-independence period.
