Wars in which Burundi participated

Burundi has participated in many wars in its history. Here are some important battles: 1st Burundi War (1972): The Burundi army, belonging to the Tutsi ethnic group, intervened to suppress the rebellion started by rebels from the Hutu ethnic group. Thousands of people died in this war and people belonging to the Hutu ethnic group were subjected to great persecution.

2. Rwandan Civil War (1990-1994): Burundi indirectly participated in the civil war in neighboring Rwanda. Burundi supported the Tutsi minority in Rwanda and fought against Hutu rebels. Tens of thousands of people died in this war, along with the effects of the genocide that took place in Rwanda in 1994.

3. Second Congo War (1998-2003): Burundi also participated in the civil war in neighboring Congo. In this war, Burundi, which supported the rebel groups in Congo, also fought to benefit from the resources in Congo.

4. AMISOM Mission in Somalia (2007-present): Burundi is one of several countries participating in the African Union's AMISOM (African Union Mission in Somalia) mission in Somalia. This mission aims to end instability in Somalia and support government forces. Other wars in which Burundi has participated include various regional conflicts, such as the Darfur War.
